Een nieuw begin!

A new beginning!

De vakantie is weer voorbij en de inloopdagen van Esther’s atelier zijn weer begonnen. Vanaf nu in haar nieuwe atelier! In de vakantie is ze verhuisd en nu heeft ze haar atelier dicht bij huis, er onder om precies te zijn. Hier wordt alle ruimte goed benut. De branders voor het maken van glaskralen nog niet zijn geïnstalleerd, maar de tafels staan al wel klaar. De tafels voor edelsmeden zijn al wel helemaal compleet en zijn ook al in gebruik genomen zoals op de foto’s te zien is. Een gezellig begin bij Estee Arts and Crafts.

The holidays are over and the open days of Esther's atelier started again. Now in her new studio! During the holidays, she moved and now she has her studio close to home, right under it to be exact. Here all the space is well utilized. The burners for making glass beads are not installed yet, but the tables are already set. The tables for goldsmithing are already quite complete and are already in use as shown in the pictures. A pleasant start at Estee Arts and Crafts.



Stoney and Malony

Ik heb een tijd terug een heel stel kreeftjes gemaakt en die ook op dit blog gezet. Twee kreeftjes zijn vorig jaar naar het atelier gegaan van Esther Diependaal van Estee Arts and Crafts, waar ik afgelopen jaar de cursus edelsmeden heb gevolgd. Daar stonden de kreeftjes op de balie en hadden ook al namen gekregen: Stoney en Maloney. Waarschijnlijk vanwege de intelligente uitdrukking van de ogen.

A while back I have made a bunch of lobsters ​​and wrote a blog about them. Last year two lobsters are gone to the studio of Esther Diependaal of Estee Arts and Crafts, where I have been following the course goldsmithing the past year. There the two lobsters had a place on the counter and had even been given names: Stoney and Maloney. Probably because of the intelligent expression of the eyes.

Op een dag waren Stoney en Maloney verdwenen! Er lag alleen nog een briefje: Wij zijn op vakantie. Niemand wist waar ze waren. Na een tijdje kwamen er mailtjes bij Esther binnen met postkaarten van vakantiebestemmingen waar Stoney en Maloney waren geweest. Zelf stonden ze ook op de foto’s. Het is nog steeds niet duidelijk wie de wereldreis betaald van deze kreeftjes, maar ze maken in ieder geval veel mee. Hierbij een paar van de kaarten:

One day Stoney and Maloney were gone! There was only a note: We are on holiday. Nobody knew where they were. After a while Esther received mails with postcards of holiday destinations where Stoney and Maloney had been. They themselves were in the pictures. It is still not clear who paid for their worldtrip, but they experience a lot. Here are a few of the cards:

De zilveren onderdelen waren klaar en het zilver brandde in mijn handen om het te dragen. Ik had geen tijd om snel iets moois te maken van Fimo, vandaar dat ik gekozen had om met bestaande kraaltjes de hanger af te maken. Ik hou van rood en zwart, dus mijn keus was snel gemaakt. De kraaltjes heb ik zo geketteld dat er drie rijen kraaltjes uit de hanger komen.  Dit is daarvan het resultaat:
The silver parts were ready and the silver burned in my hands to wear it. I had no time to use Fimo to make something beautiful, so I chose to finish the pendant with shiney beads I had. I love red and black, so my choice was quickly made. Three rows of beads come from the hanger. This is the result of that:

Maar hoe blij ik ook was met mijn nieuwe hanger, hij bleef tijdens het dragen telkens draaien, zodat de voorkant niet voor zat. Ik wilde de kralen niet vastlijmen, dus ik ging aan de slag met een van mijn eerste ideeën: de hanger afmaken met Fimo. Dat wilde ik vanaf het begin van het edelsmeden al: zilver en Fimo samen gebruiken. Ik had een mooie cane gemaakt met een bloem in zeetinten (zie blog verzoek armband) en die heb ik gebruikt voor mijn zilveren hanger. Ik wilde graag een soort druppelvorm en dat is het dus geworden. 
Allthough I was very happy with my new pendant, it remained turning around while wearing so you couldn't see. I did not want to glue the beads, so I went to work with one of my first ideas: finish the pendant with Fimo. This is what I wanted when I started goldsmithing: the use of silver and Fimo together. I had a beautiful cane made with a flower in colors of the sea (see blog bracelet request) and I used this for my silver pendant. I wanted a kind of teardrop and that's what I made.

Doordat de Fimo helemaal door het zilver heen gaat en aan de bovenkant eruit komt, draait de hanger niet meer! Nu is de hanger pas echt klaar.
Because the Fimo completely passes through the silver and comes out at the top, the pendant doesn't turn anymore! Now the pendant is ready for real.
